Plan Your Shifts for the Entire Year
This shift planner turns your rotating schedule into a clear, visual plan you can act on. Plan vacations around your days off, schedule appointments on rest days, and coordinate with your family, all from one view.
Plan Your Shifts in 3 Steps
The ShiftScheduleUp shift planner creates a complete plan for your rotating schedule. See your entire year at a glance and plan around it.
Select from 12+ preset patterns including 2-2-3, DuPont, Pitman, Kelly, and more. Or build a custom rotation for non-standard schedules.
Enter when your rotation cycle begins and select your team. The shift planner maps your exact schedule for up to 12 months automatically.
Review your full-year plan, then export to Google Calendar, download a PDF, print for your wall, or share a link with your family and coworkers.
The shift planner works with every major rotation pattern. Select your pattern, set the date your cycle starts, choose your team, and your plan is ready. Export it to Google Calendar so your shifts live alongside your personal events, or print it and pin it to your wall.
What Makes a Good Shift Planner?
Accuracy
A shift planner is only useful if it is correct. This tool uses the exact mathematical cycle for each pattern, the same rotation your employer follows. As long as your start date and team are right, every day on the calendar matches your actual schedule. No approximations, no rounding.
Long-Range View
Most posted schedules cover 2-4 weeks. That is not enough for real planning. This shift planner generates up to 12 months, giving you the long-range view you need for vacation requests, holiday planning, and life decisions that depend on knowing your schedule months ahead.
Portability
A plan that lives only on a website is not very useful. That is why every shift plan you create here can be exported as an .ICS file (for Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook), downloaded as a PDF, printed, or shared via URL. Your plan goes wherever you need it.
Team Coordination
Share your shift plan link with coworkers. They open the same link, switch to their team (A, B, C, or D), and see their own schedule. Same rotation, same start date, different team view. Useful for coordinating shift swaps, coverage, or social plans with colleagues on different teams.

How to Plan Around Your Shift Schedule
Vacation Planning
Generate a 12-month shift plan and look for your longest stretches of consecutive off days. Many patterns create natural long weekends or multi-day breaks. By requesting just 1-2 additional days off adjacent to these breaks, you can create extended vacations without burning through all your PTO. The DuPont schedule is especially good for this. Its built-in 7-day break means you get a week off every month without using any leave.
Appointment Scheduling
Doctors, dentists, and other services that operate on business hours are hard to access when you work rotating shifts. With your shift plan visible for months ahead, you can book appointments on off days well in advance instead of scrambling to find openings that match your schedule.
Family Coordination
Share your shift plan with your partner or family. When they can see your schedule alongside their own, coordinating childcare, meals, social events, and quality time becomes much easier. This is especially important for dual-shift-worker households where both partners have rotating schedules. The Sleep Foundation notes that shift work can strain relationships, and proactive schedule sharing is one of the most effective ways to reduce that strain.
Sleep and Recovery Planning
If your pattern includes night shifts, plan your sleep transitions in advance. Knowing when you switch from days to nights (or vice versa) lets you gradually adjust your sleep schedule rather than crashing into the change unprepared. The shift planner shows exactly when these transitions happen.

This shift planner supports all major rotation patterns:
- 2-2-3 (Panama), plan around the alternating 2-on/3-off rhythm and every-other-weekend breaks

- 4-on-4-off, plan around the simple 4-day work, 4-day rest rhythm

Shift Planning Best Practices
Having a shift planner is step one. Here is how to make the most of it:
- Plan at the start of each quarter. Sit down with your 12-month shift plan and block out key dates: vacations, family events, medical appointments, and personal goals. Doing this quarterly keeps you ahead of conflicts.
- Communicate early. If you need to swap a shift or request time off, do it as far in advance as possible. Your shift planner gives you the visibility to spot conflicts months before they happen.
- Build routines around your rotation. Use your shift plan to establish consistent habits. For example, always do meal prep on the first off day after a work stretch, or always exercise on the second off day.
- Account for recovery days. The first day off after a night shift block is not really a “free” day. You will spend most of it sleeping and recovering. Plan accordingly and do not schedule demanding activities on recovery days.
- Review and adjust. At the start of each month, compare your shift plan to reality. If your employer changed the rotation or you swapped shifts, regenerate your plan with the updated information.
