Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how we use cookies and similar technologies such as browser local storage, what each one does, and how you can control them.
Last updated:
1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files that a website stores on your device to make it work and to remember information about your visit. We also use similar technologies such as browser local storage. In this policy we refer to all of these simply as "cookies".
2. How we use cookies
We use cookies to keep you signed in, remember your preferences and plan access, keep the Service secure, process payments, understand how the site is used, and support advertising on the Free experience. We group them into strictly necessary, preferences, analytics, advertising, and payment cookies.
3. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the site to function and cannot be switched off in our systems. They are usually set in response to actions you take, such as signing in or setting your language.
| Cookie | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| WordPress login cookies | Keep you signed in to your account | Session to 14 days |
| ssu_auth | Reconciles the signed-in header on cached pages | Up to 14 days |
| ssu_ads | Honours Free or ad-free access on cached pages | Session to 14 days |
| ssu_did | Recognises your device for new sign-in security alerts | 1 year |
| ssu_lang / language preference | Remembers your chosen language | 1 year |
| Security nonces | Protect forms against cross-site request forgery | Session |
4. Preference storage
The schedule tool stores your work and settings in your browser using local storage rather than cookies. This includes your saved patterns, day overrides, events, notes, colours and the light or dark theme (stored as ssu-theme). This information stays on your device and is not transmitted to us unless you sign in and save a schedule to your account.
5. Analytics cookies
With your consent, we use analytics tools to understand how visitors use the site so we can improve it. These may set their own cookies:
- Google Analytics measures traffic and usage patterns. You can opt out with Google's browser add-on.
- Microsoft Clarity provides anonymised, aggregated insight into how pages are used.
These cookies are optional. Where required, we ask for your consent before setting them, and you can withdraw it at any time through your browser settings.
6. Advertising cookies and similar technologies
Guests and Free members may see ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies, local storage, IP addresses, device information, advertising identifiers and page activity to deliver, limit, secure and measure ads. Where permitted and where you consent, these signals may also be used to personalise advertising.
If you do not consent where consent is required, Google may serve non-personalised or limited ads, or no ad. Monthly Pro, Yearly Pro and Lifetime Pro members do not receive AdSense ad requests while their Pro access is active.
Learn more about how Google uses information from sites that use its services and review Google's Privacy Policy.
7. Payment and security cookies
When you buy a Pro plan, our payment providers Stripe and PayPal may set cookies to process the transaction securely and to help prevent fraud. These are set by the provider on their checkout, and are governed by their own privacy and cookie policies.
8. How to control cookies
You can use the privacy choices message shown on the site to manage advertising consent and applicable US state opt-outs. You can also control and delete cookies through your browser settings, and set your browser to warn you before cookies are stored. Every major browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge) explains how in its help pages. Please note that if you block strictly necessary cookies, parts of the site such as signing in may stop working.
You can clear the tool's local storage the same way you clear cookies and site data in your browser.
9. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a "Do Not Track" signal, and some send a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal that may act as an opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising under applicable law. There is no common industry standard for Do Not Track. Where required, use the site's privacy choices to record an advertising opt-out, and contact us if you need help exercising a privacy right.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy as our use of cookies changes. When we do, we will update the "last updated" date at the top of this page.
